Traditional Master Bath Remodel and Powder Room in University Park
Homeowner Challenge
As part of a whole house remodel, our clients wanted their master bath and powder room updated with new traditional design features, and a few functional improvements. They wanted their study to double as a guest bedroom, which meant converting the existing powder bath to a full bath to accommodate their request. The original shower in their master bath was relatively small compared to the overall size of the bathroom. They desired a two-person shower with separate controls.
Master Bath Details
Capital Renovations Group enlarged the shower by 18” to accommodate the homeowners’ request without compromising the floor space or traffic flow. For visual effect as well as function, wall to ceiling Carrara White marble was designed into the space covering all wet areas, specifically the shower and behind the tub. The floor was laid with honed and polished tile to address any safety concerns with slippery wet surfaces.
New vanity cabinets were installed with full-extension drawer guides and soft close hinges to ensure full drawer access and soft drawer closures. A decorative wall sconce separating the framed mirrors help visually delineate his and her lavatories.
The closet twin doors that opened directly in front of the vanity were replaced with a pocket door to clean up the vanity area and improve traffic flow.
Powder Bath Conversion
An oddly positioned wet bar located directly behind the powder bath was removed to enlarge the space and accommodate the full bath. A low-barrier shower entry was designed into the space with blocking installed in the walls for future grab bars, to address and accommodate any potential future mobility issues of aging parents.
Result
Capital Renovations Group designed two traditional bathrooms using several shades of gray with contrasting textures. The bathrooms now function perfectly for our clients’ needs in a refined color palette that is subtle and relaxing, and adds a splash of luxury to their home.
