The 5 latest bathroom trends you may want to consider for your remodeling project.

Need some bathroom remodeling ideas to freshen up your current space? The key to any bathroom remodel is complete functionality, but creativity has become a large part of a remodel.  Keeping an eye on key trends, and incorporating them into home remodeling projects, could result in an increase in your home’s value. According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), bathrooms are the most popular remodeling project, at approximately 78% of all home remodels. And bathroom remodels typically have one of the highest returns on investments. Increased functionality makes the remodel more appealing.

For years, homeowners have invested in their kitchens and baths to enhance their home’s resale value. However, today, when most homeowners are choosing to stay put longer — rather than sell — the trend is toward creating ‘live-in value’ and customizing kitchens and bathrooms for a homeowner’s personal preferences.

In addition, the national trend for many homeowners — especially Baby Boomers — is “rightsizing” their homes to a smaller footprint to meet their needs. But while the bathroom spaces may be getting a little smaller, consumers are still looking for a spa-like experience — and “upsizing” their amenities.

Let’s look at five key trends that are considered as modern bathroom remodeling ideas:

Style: For the most part, the master bathroom specifically should be an extension of the master suite. The master bath serves as a sanctuary away from the travails of the day and everything else in the house.  Having said that, you owe it to the design to pamper yourself and splurge a little bit. Since bathrooms — especially master baths — are considered your getaway oasis, decking the bathroom out with more luxury items is ideal, within reason. For example more remodels are seeing floating vanities and open storage, free standing wood tubs, under mount sinks and shower lighting.

Design: 2017 is going to mark the return of organics and natural. The design style will be natural, with clean colors, seamless lines and a very practical arrangement of the space with floating vanities and open storage.  The style is definitely more contemporary.

Materials:  With busy lifestyles, homeowners are looking for materials that are easy to maintain while also being very stylish.  They want simplicity but creativity that exudes playfulness.  Materials with bold, geometric patterns will be seen on floors and walls.  Another new material making its way into bathrooms in 2017 is wood.  Slovenian oak is being used with water…on shower floors or even a tub!

Fixtures: Finding the right fixtures for your bathroom can make the remodel. Research suggests that most consumers purchase two-handled faucets (84%) with lever-shaped handles (64%) for their bathroom sinks. (There are some great choices in fixtures from leading manufacturers such as Moen, Kohler, Delta Faucets, Hansgrohe, to name a few.)  But, in 2017 the trend is connecting clay and water.  Decades ago clay was used to create vessels for holding water and now faucets are being created from clay for water features.

Consumers are using their space more efficiently, creating custom showers, like vertical spas, which include multiple showerheads, in a smaller footprint. For those looking for full-body coverage in the shower, vertical spas are a great option. Clean, flat body spray styles that blend seamlessly with your shower surround are gaining popularity. Moen’s Flushmount body sprays, for example, offer an adjustable spray face, so you can pivot the water up to 20 degrees in any direction, for more generous water coverage. There are rainshowers, handshowers, rotating sprayheads….you have so many choices your head will spin.

Colors: The bathroom colors for 2017 are very clean.  Tiles and surfaces are no longer bright or high shine but are matte, nude with neutral colors.  These color combinations are perfect with darker colors that will add contrast to the overall design color scheme.  You will also find metal accessories in hues of brass and gold.  The 70’s is back…brass may become the new metal for the bathroom in combination with marble.  It really is beautiful together…very noble and elegant.

As you begin planning your home renovations for 2017, these bathroom remodeling ideas will provide years of enjoyment in a simple, yet elegant style.
